GENERAL APPEARANCE:

The Siberian Husky is a mediumsized working dog, quick and lighton his feet and free and gracefulin action. His moderately compactand well furred body, erect ears and brush tail suggest hisNorthern heritage. His characteristic gait issmooth and seeminglyeffortless. He performs his original functionin harness mostcapably, carrying a light load at a moderate speedover greatdistances. His body proportions and form reflect thisbasic balanceof power, speed and endurance. The males of theSiberian Husky breedare masculine but never coarse; the bitches arefeminine but withoutweakness of structure. In proper condition,with muscle firm andwell developed, the Siberian Husky does notcarry excess weight.

IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:

- In profile, the length of the body from the point of theshoulder tothe rear point of the croup is slightly longer than theheight of thebody from the ground to the top of the withers.

- The distance from the tip of the nose to the stop is equal tothedistance from the stop to the occiput.

BEHAVIOUR / TEMPERAMENT:

The characteristictemperament of the Siberian Husky is friendlyand gentle, but alsoalert and outgoing. He does not display thepossessive qualities ofthe guard dog, nor is he overly suspiciousof strangers or aggressivewith other dogs.

Some measure of reserve and dignity may be expected in thematuredog. His intelligence, tractability, and eager dispositionmake him anagreeable companion and willing worker.

Nose: Black in gray, tan or black dogs; liver in copper dogs;may beflesh-coloured in pure white dogs. The pink-streaked « snownose »is acceptable.

Muzzle: Of medium length and of medium width, taperinggraduallyto the nose, with the tip neither pointed nor square. Thebridge of thenose is straight from the stop to the tip.

Lips: Well pigmented and close fitting.

Expression : Keen, but friendly, interested and evenmischievous.

Ears: Of medium size, triangular in shape, close fitting and sethighon the head. They are thick, well furred, slightly arched atthe back,and strongly erect, with slightly rounded tips pointingstraight up.

NECK: Medium in length, arched and carried proudly erect whendogis standing. When moving at a trot, the neck is extended so thatthehead is carried slightly forward.

Back: Straight and strong, with a level topline from withers tocroup.Of medium length, neither cobby nor slack from excessivelength.

Loin: Taut and lean, narrower than the rib cage, and with aslighttuck-up.

Chest: Deep and strong, but not too broad, with the deepestpointbeing just behind and level with the elbows. The ribs are wellsprungfrom the spine but flattened on the sides to allow forfreedom ofaction.

Croup: Slopes away from the spine at an angle, but never sosteeplyas to restrict the rearward thrust of the hind legs.

TAIL: The well furred tail of fox-brush shape is set on justbelowthe level of the topline, and is usually carried over the backin agraceful sickle curve when the dog is at attention. Whencarried up,the tail does not curl to either side of the body, nordoes it snap flatagainst the back. A trailing tail is normal forthe dog when in repose.Hair on the tail is of medium length andapproximately the samelength on top, sides and bottom, giving theappearance of a roundbrush.

FOREQUARTERS : When standing and viewed from the front, thelegsare moderately spaced, parallel and straight. Bone issubstantialbut never heavy. Length of the leg from the elbow toground isslightly more than the distance from the elbow to the topof withers.Dewclaws on forelegs may be removed.

Shoulder and arm : The shoulder blade is well laid back. Theupperarm angles slightly backward from point of shoulder to elbow,and isnever perpendicular to the ground. The muscles andligamentsholding the shoulder to the rib cage are firm and welldeveloped.

HINDQUARTERS：When standing and viewed from the rear, thehindlegs are moderately spaced and parallel. Dewclaws, if any, areto beremoved.

Thigh: Well muscled and powerful.

Stifle (Knee): Well bent.

FEET：Oval in shape but not long. The paws are medium insize,compact and well furred between the toes and pads. The padsaretough and thickly cushioned. The paws neither turn in nor outwhenthe dog is in natural stance.

GAIT/MOVEMENT:

The Siberian Husky』s characteristic gait issmooth and seeminglyeffortless. He is quick and light on his feet,and when in the showring should be gaited on a loose lead at amoderately fast trot,exhibiting good reach in the forequarters andgood drive in thehindquarters. When viewed from the front to rearwhile moving at awalk the Siberian Husky does not single-track, butas the speedincreases the legs gradually angle inward until the padsare fallingon a line directly under the longitudinal center of thebody. As thepad marks converge, the forelegs and hind legs arecarriedstraightforward, with neither elbows nor stifles turned in orout.Each』hind leg moves in the path of the foreleg on the sameside.While the dog is gaiting, the topline remains firm andlevel.

Hair:The coat of the Siberian Husky is double and mediuminlength, giving a well furred appearance, but is never so long astoobscure the cleancut outline of the dog. The undercoat is softanddense and of sufficient length to support the outer coat. Theguardhairs of the outer coat are straight and somewhat smoothlying, neverharsh nor standing straight off from the body. Itshould be noted thatthe absence of the undercoat during theshedding season is normal.Trimming of whiskers and fur between thetoes and around the feetto present a neater appearance ispermissible. Trimming the fur onany other part of the dog is not tobe condoned and should beseverely penalized.

Colour: All colours from black to pure white are allowed.Avariety of markings on the head is common, including manystrikingpatterns not found in other breeds.

SIZE AND WEIGHT

Height at the withers:

Dogs: 21 to 23, 5 inches (53,5 - 60 cm). Females : 20 to 22inches (50,5 - 56 cm).

Weight::

Dogs : 45 to 60 pounds (20,5 - 28 kg). Females : 35 to 50 pounds(15,5 - 23 kg).

Weight is in proportion to height. The measurementsmentionedabove represent the extreme height and weight limits withnopreference given to either extreme. Any appearance ofexcessivebone or weight should be penalized.

FAULTS: Any departure from the foregoing points shouldbeconsidered a fault and the seriousness with which the faultshould beregarded should be in exact proportion to its degree andits effectupon the health and welfare of the dog.

• Skull : Head clumsy or heavy; head too finely chiseled.

• Stop : Insufficient.

• Muzzle : Either too snipy or too coarse; too short or toolong.

• Jaws/Teeth : Any bite other than scissor bite.

• Eyes : Set too obliquely; set too close together.

• Ears : Too large in proportion to the head; too wide set;notstrongly erect.

• Neck : Too short and thick; too long.

• Back : Weak or slack back; roached back; sloping topline.

• Chest : Too broad; « barrel ribs »; ribs too flat or weak.

• Tail : A snapped or tightly curled tail; highly plumed tail;tail settoo low or too high.• Shoulders : Straight shoulders; looseshoulders.

• Forequarters : Weak pasterns; too heavy bone; too narrow ortoowide in the front; out at the elbows.

• Hindquarters : Straight stifles, cow-hocks, too narrow or toowidein the rear.

• Feet : Soft or splayed toes; paws too large and clumsy; pawstoosmall and delicate; toeing in or out.

• Gait/Movement : Short, prancing or choppy gait, lumberingorrolling gait; crossing or crabbing.

• Hair : Long, rough, or shaggy coat; texture too harsh or toosilky;trimming of the coat, except as permitted above.

DISQUALIFYING FAULTS:

• Aggressive or overly shy dogs.

• Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalitiesshall be disqualified.

• Dogs over 23,5 inches (60 cm) and bitches over 22 inches(56cm).

N.B.：

• Male animals should have two apparently normal testiclesfullydescended into the scrotum.
