Have no idea about Chinese traditional festivals and publicholidays? Want to plan a trip between work but don't know when youcan take a few days off? Check out this year's holiday informationhere. Before reading the calendar of 2018, note this:

1. In China, weekends prior to or immediately after publicholidays are often made official workdays, as working days inbetween are often taken off to make a longer public holiday. TheSpring Festival of this year, for example, officially starts onThursday, February 15 (Chinese New Year's Eve), and runs to thenext Wednesday, February 21. And February 11 (Sunday) and February(Saturday) 24, though falling on the weekend, are days when youstill need to go to work.

2. Many holidays are taken as Valentine's Day by young couplesin China. So if you have a Chinese girlfriend, she may be waitingfor your gifts on February 14 (Western Valentine's Day), March 2(the Lantern Festival), May 20 and 21 (5/20 and 5/21, which soundlike "I love you" in Chinese), August 17 (Double Seventh Festival),and December 11 (Single's Day), besides her birthday and youranniversary.

3. Western festivals, like Thanksgiving Day and Christmas, arewelcomed by many young people, but are not officially celebrated inChina.

4. Traditional Chinese festivals, developed over thousands ofyears of history, cannot be covered in a single article. Only thewell-known holidays and festivals are listed here. TraditionalChinese festivals are celebrated, but not every one of them allowsyou to take a few days off.
