WCPTWhat is physical therapy?

Physical therapists have different titles in different countries: in many countries they are calledphysiotherapists. Some countries have their own version of the word physical therapist, such as kinesiologist. They are all part of the same profession.

Physical therapists provide services that develop, maintain and restore people』s maximum movement and functional ability. They can help people at any stage of life, when movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors.

什麼是物理治療師？物理治療師在不同的國家有不同的稱呼：在很多國家他們被叫做物理治療師。有一些國家對物理治療師這個詞有自己專屬的稱呼，如運動治療師。他們都是同一個職業的一部分。物理治療師所提供的服務是發展、維持和恢復人們最大的動作和功能能力。當運動和功能受到衰老，損傷，疾病，障礙，健康狀況和環境因素的威脅時，物理治療師可以在人們生命中的任何階段提供幫助。他們幫助人們最大程度提高生活質量，他們著眼於提高身體的，心理的，情感的和社會的幸福感。他們在健康領域的工作包括促進,預防，治療/干預，康復和復健。

Physical therapists are qualified and professionally required to:物理治療師有資格做且同時需要具備的職業技能：

----- undertake a comprehensive examination/assessment of the patient/client or needs of a client group 承擔全面的檢查/評定病人/客戶或客戶群的需求

----- evaluate the findings from the examination/assessment to make clinical judgments regarding patients/clients 從檢查/評定中評估結果以作出關於病人/客戶的臨床判斷

----- formulate a diagnosis, prognosis and plan 作出診斷，判斷預后和制定計劃

----- provide consultation within their expertise and determine when patients/clients need to be referred to another healthcare professiona 提供專業領域的研討會，並確定病人/客戶需要求助於其它衛生保健專家的時機

----- implement a physical therapist intervention/treatment programme----- 施行物理治療師的干預/治療方案。
